Apartment building on Wasagasse
Anton Hoppe was known as the master builder of the architects Joseph Kornhäusel and Carl Roesner and was responsible for the designs of the Mechitarist Monastery and the Church of the Redeemer as well as numerous town houses in the rapidly expanding Viennese suburbs. Built in 1829 for Franz Hirsch, the residential building at Wasagasse 26/corner of Thurngasse 9 has a modern grid, streetside façade featuring round arches (lunettes adorned with shells) and a stag as a house emblem and reference to the owner’s name. On the courtyard side, the seasons are set into the brickwork as relief medallions. BUWOG has completely refurbished the four-storey apartment building and adapted it for modern residential use.
